Mr. Martin A. Lempert
Mr. Martin A. Lempert, Owner and Senior Instructor
Mr. Lempert has been training with Kang’s Black Belt Academy since he was 5 years old and holds the rank of 3rd Dan. Tae Kwon Do has guided his life ever since that kindergarten year. For Mr. Lempert, Martial Arts is a way of life that provides an outlet for continuous self-improvement. Mr. Lempert believes that as long as we keep growing, we are getting stronger and better in all areas of life.
Mr. Lempert says that Tae Kwon Do at Kang’s Black Belt Academy is about confidence, strength and growth. It’s also about being part of a team. Our team of instructors works together to help every student reach their goals and succeed. He is dedicated to the belief that each and every black belt at Kang’s is a shared success between students and their instructors. “I feel so proud of each of our students as they reach their next belt level,” Mr. Lempert says. “Every time a student works their hardest to be the best that they can be, then that is success in its truest form for all the Kang’s family.”
Mr. Lempert is dedicated to that idea that Kang’s Black Belt Academy is truly a family, providing opportunities for children and adult students to succeed in an environment of caring, support, encouragement, as well as fun.
Mr. Lempert has completed his degree in Microbiology from Binghamton University in NY. When not at the studio, he enjoys playing the piano and watching movies. He also likes cooking and trying new recipes.
Master Mark Malakoff
Master Mark Malakoff, Senior Instructor
Master Mark Malakoff has more than 38 years’ experience in the Martial Arts and holds the rank of 5th Dan, specializing in the arts of traditional Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. Master Malakoff also holds a 1st Dan black belt in TangSooDo and KukSoolWon, both Korean styles, which are a blend of hard and soft styles.
Master Malakoff began his training at the age of 15 in Pittsburgh, PA under the instruction of Master Rick Lengyel and Master Achille “Ike” Aka. Master Malakoff also attended all Black Belt classes held by Master Frank DiMatteo in the ‘70s and ‘80s before moving to Maryland in the late ‘80s. He did this to pursue his love for teaching Tae Kwon Do.
Master Malakoff also trained under Master Al Gauthier in Annapolis, MD in the early ‘90s at the Korean Martial Arts Academy to increase his knowledge of the Martial Arts.
Master Malakoff has been teaching in this area for more than 35 years. He is dedicated to creating a positive environment for children and adults alike; helping students to gain self-confidence and develop their self-esteem while having fun learning the Martial Arts. He tells all students that to gain respect from others, you must first respect yourself. You do this by taking care of yourself by eating healthy food, exercising, having good personal hygiene and, most importantly, getting the rest your body needs.
Mrs. Mary Ann Malakoff
Mrs. Mary Ann Malakoff, Senior Instructor
Mrs. Mary Ann Malakoff is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and is a Master Instructor of all Lil’ Dragon classes taught throughout Montgomery County, MD. She is the creator of the “Pink & Blue Ninja” Tae Kwon Do program at Kang’s, and is a licensed Zumba and Strong by Zumba Instructor.
Mrs. Malakoff’s Martial Arts story starts in the late ‘70s when she used to drive 15-year-old Master Malakoff to Tae Kwon Do classes in Oakland, PA. She said, “I never thought much about being a black belt then. I was just giving my boyfriend a ride to Karate school! Many years later, when Master Malakoff and I got married (after not seeing each other for 18 years), everyone asked me when I was going to start training. My standard answer was, ‘When I turn 40!’ Then it happened!!” Mrs. Malakoff brings her love of teaching and helping others achieve success to all she does. She encourages all the students and helps them see that they can succeed.
Mr. Griffith "Griff" Page
Mr. Griffith “Griff” Page, Senior Instructor
Mr. Griffith “Griff” Page has trained in the Martial Arts since he was 10 years old. He is a senior instructor at the Kang’s studio in Olney, and teaches the Lil’ Dragons program at a number of pre-schools in Montgomery County, MD. Mr. Page brings a high level of enthusiasm to working with students of all ages. When he is teaching our youngest students in the Lil’ Dragon and Kid Tigers programs, he helps these students gain the confidence to know that they can succeed. He helps them grow their self-control and respect, and doesn’t hesitate to get down on the floor to play a game or talk to the students. Mr. Page strives to make every interaction with students a positive and enlightening experience.
Mr. Page is also very artistic. In his free time, Mr. Page enjoys trail cycling, metal working, and playing with his big dogs.
Ms. Dawn Herold
Ms. Dawn Herold, Instructor
Ms. Dawn Herold joined the Kang’s team 10 years ago and has since attained the rank of permanent 1st Dan Black Belt under the guidance of Master Mark Malakoff. Ms. Dawn brings her high level of enthusiasm and energy to everything she does at Kang’s. Ms. Dawn is a key member in running Kang’s on the studio floor and behind the scenes. She is very excited about helping all students, from the youngest to the oldest adults, reach their fitness goals and just feel better about themselves. She has an extensive background in Yoga and personal training. Ms. Dawn looks forward to meeting you at your first class!
Ms. Christine Diestro
Ms. Christine Diestro, Junior Instructor
Ms. Christine Diestro has been training at Kang’s since she was 8-years old. Now, at the age of 17, she is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. To her, Kang’s is her second family. Throughout her training, she has been involved in the SWAT Team (Special Winning Attitude Team) and the Demonstration Team. Through these programs, she has become a more open, confident, and enthusiastic person.
Outside of Kang’s, Christine is a senior in high school preparing to study nursing at UMBC. She volunteers to assist disabled elderly in the swim center and serves at her local church as an altar server captain. She is also part of the yearbook staff in school.
Christine enjoys teaching all ages and helping students advance in their training. She never ceases to have fun and always brings her positive spirit to class with a smile. “I wish to give the love and support that was given to me by my Kang’s family and spread it through the students, just as my instructors did for me.”
Mr. Guy Felix
Mr. Guy Felix, Junior Instructor
Mr. Guy Felix has been training at Kang’s for more than 12 years and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt. He enjoys working with students of all ages, and the Lil’ Dragon and Kid Tigers students really look up to him. He says, “My name is Guy, or Mr. Guy, or Mr. Felix. My training at Kang’s has been amazing, especially since my ‘baby’ brother and both my parents train with me. If I’m not at the studio, I could be doing school stuff, but at any given time, I’d rather be at the studio.” Mr. Felix is a member of Kang’s Demonstration Team.
Mr. Ben Ostrinsky
Mr. Ben Ostrinsky, Junior Instructor
Mr. Ben Ostrinsky began training in Tae Kwon Do in August 2007 at the age of 5. He started as a Lil’ Dragon and worked through the ranks of Kid Tigers and Tae Kwon Do belts, earning his 2nd Degree Black Belt in December 2017. Ben is a member of the Kang’s Demonstration Team, working with the other instructors on creating Bo Staff forms and other Demo Team techniques.
When he’s not at the studio, Ben is involved in many activities. He has been a member of the Tanterra Dive Team since 2011 and has competed for the past seven years. During the 2017 season, he qualified for the All-Stars where he placed 6th out of 20 competitors from across Montgomery County, MD.
At Magruder High School, Ben has been a percussionist for the MHS Marching Band and Drumline, and was a member of the Pit Orchestra for the spring musical this past year. As a student athlete, Ben also competed for the MHS dive team where he won 1st place in every dual meet, helping his team earn 1st place in their division
Mr. Mark Villanueva
Mr. Mark Villanueva, Junior Instructor
Mr. Mark Villanueva joined the Kang’s Black Belt Academy family at the age of 7. He began his training with the Kid Tigers Program and has obtained the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt under the instruction of Master Malakoff. Mark has competed in many Martial Arts tournaments in Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, and has won multiple awards in Traditional Forms competitions. His most prestigious wins were as a Grand Champion in youth under-belt forms at the 18th Annual Leaders and Legends World Martial Arts Championship in MD, 1st place in youth under-belt forms at the Annual State Karate Championship in PA, and two 1st place awards at the Kumite Classic in PA. Mark has been an integral part of Kang’s SWAT and DEMO teams and has competed with the demo team in multiple tournaments and performed in various events in the area. He also loves the art of weapon forms, in particular Nunchucks, and has learned under the instruction of Mr. Marty Lempert. Mark has dedicated himself to continuing to practice and teach the art of Tae Kwon Do for many years to come.
Dr. Mary Baker

Dr. Mary Baker, Instructor
Dr. Mary Baker has been training at Kang’s for the past 5 years. She is a 1st Degree Black Belt and the proud mother of two black belt students. Dr. Baker teaches our Black Belt Fit classes on Saturday mornings which provide a great opportunity for stretching and fitness training. She can also be found most evenings assisting in teaching classes at the studio. When she is not at Kang’s, Dr. Baker is a high school chemistry teacher.
Mr. Zach Turkheimer
Mr. Zach Turkheimer, Instructor
Mr. Zach Turkheimer started training alongside Mr. Martin Lempert at the age of 7 in 2002. He has been training ever since. Under the wing of Master Malakoff, he has studied Tae Kwon Do and other forms of Martial Arts over the years. After obtaining the rank of 2nd Dan at the age of 15, Mr. Turkheimer has been teaching all levels in our program. After returning from college in 2017 he teaches a few classes a month and always brings excitement and energy to the mat as soon as he steps foot in our doors. He and Mr. Martin Lempert have been training partners over the years and they always bring a great variety of techniques and lessons to our studio. Mr. Turkheimer has years of experience and knowledge under his belt, so feel free to ask him questions when you see him at the studio.
Mrs. Annalisa Dialino-Felix and Mr. Fernie Felix

Mrs. Annalisa Dialino-Felix has been training at Kang’s for 8 years. She is currently at 1st Degree Black Belt. She says, “At the studio, I’m very fortunate to help teach the Pink & Blue Ninja adult classes. When I’m not at the studio, I love running, Zumba, enjoying good food, and spending time with my family.”
Mr. Fernie Felix, Instructor
Mr. Fernie Felix has been training at Kang’s for 8 years and is currently a 2nd Degree Black Belt. “My favorite classes are the Tuesday and Thursday Adult classes,” he says. “I enjoy working with the Pink & Blue Ninjas. In my spare time, I’m an avid runner, having done a handful of area half marathons.”
Mrs. Robin Feldman

Mrs. Feldman has trained at Kang’s Black Belt Academy for more than 15 years and has obtained the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt. For the last 10 years, she has instructed Tae Kwon Do students at all levels, as well as Lil’ Dragons and Kid Tigers. When not at Kang’s Olney studio, she works as an Information Specialist at The Emmes Corporation in Rockville and enjoys baking, gardening, and running 10K races.
Mr. Josh Lempert

Mr. Josh Lempert, Instructor and Marketing Director
Mr. Josh Lempert started training when he was 5 years old. He is now a 1st Degree Black Belt. He says, “Tae Kwon Do is about exercising and training, and teaches valuable life lessons and core values, such as respect, patience, and perseverance. The most important of these, in my opinion, is perseverance. Training has taught me that no matter how hard things get, if you set a goal and work towards it, you will reach it. My Kang’s family has always encouraged me to try new things and never give up.”
Now, as an instructor, Mr. Lempert wants to share these values and lessons with students at Kang’s. He works with students of all ages in classes, and at summer camps, to help all Kang’s students succeed and to learn that they can overcome the things that seem impossible.
Mr. Lempert is also Kang’s Marketing Director, using the knowledge he has gotten through studying Marketing at the School of Management of Binghamton University in NY. He has many creative ideas, and when he’s not working or training at Kang’s he enjoys photography and graphic arts, as well as movies and music.
Mrs. Robin Lempert & Mr. Stuart Lempert

Mrs. Lempert has been training at Kang’s in the Pink Ninja program for the past 3 years. When her sons started training they’d always ask her to start taking classes, and she never thought she would. Then the Pink Ninja program started and she loves Tae Kwon Do. Mrs. Lempert also manages the computer programs and office for Kang’s. Mrs. Lempert has worked in the non-profit world in adult education and taught dance for many years. Her college degrees are in ethnomusicology and math. When she’s not at the studio, Mrs. Lempert teaches elementary school, and is a Math Specialist as well as a Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.
Mr. Stuart Lempert has been training at Kang’s for several years. He is now part of the Blue Ninjas program and really enjoys training with his whole family. Mr. Lempert is a C.P.A. and as part of Kang’s management team he handles the financial end of the business. Mr. Lempert enjoys sports, manages a men’s softball team, and is a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants, as well as other New York sports teams. He also enjoys music and political discussions.
